Art Parties

doodlebug Art Parties have been a favorite San Anselmo tradition for more than 15 years and for good reason. A mellow environment, a great project and excellent helpers help you create the party your child wants, with minimal effort on your part!

Art Party Options

Pottery Painting (Options: dinner plates, mugs, banks, or figurines): Each guest will paint the item of your choice. You can then pick up your finished masterpieces in a week. doodlebug will glaze and fire them for you so they have that nice glossy finish (which makes them food, dishwasher and microwave safe). Paint is washable and non-toxic. For all ages, however, children under 5 sometimes finish these projects very quickly.

Other Painting Projects (Options: canvas, vertical garden, treasure box): We'll help you decorate the fun item of your choice using acrylic (not washable but permanent on the item) or poster paint (washable but somewhat less vibrant and not water resistant). For all ages, however, children under 5 may finish quickly.

Forest Houses: For fairies, gnomes, and other magical creatures! We'll provide the basic structure and show you how you can embellish it with a new roof, windows and doors, a flower garden and other unique features.

Decoupage (Options: mirror, wood box, wall plaque): Choose your favorite colorful and patterned papers. We?ll show you how to tear them into appropriately-sized pieces and use them to decorate your item. This is an ideal project for younger children since it is broken up into ?steps? which helps control timing.

Mosaics (Options: mirror, box, wall plaque): Use our collection of "tesserae", including pebbles, shells, beads, marbles, broken tile and more to cover the surface of your chosen item.

Sewing (Options: Critters, Tooth Fairy Pillow, Kimochi Style Toys): We will help you hand sew something special, whether you're an old-timer or first-timer. No experience required!

Wearable Art or Jewelry (Options: tote bag, necklace & bracelet, pin): We?ll provide everything you need to create a distinctive piece of wearable art. Ages 4+ (for younger children we recommend the necklace/bracelet projects).

Oven-baked Clay: use colorful clay to make small animals, food, people, furniture and more - we'll then bake it in our toaster oven so the items can be taken home from the party.

Stories and Art: This is a great party for really young party-goers. We?ll read a new or favorite book and stop along the way to do 2 or 3 art projects relating to the story. Please note any book preferences or let us choose one that allows for some great activities. Ages 1.5+ (parent participation required)

Collage: Using an 8 x 10 wood base your guests can create unique masterworks. We will cover the table with a variety of materials (papers, fabrics, trims, buttons, beads, shells, pebbles, miscellaneous mosaic pieces, and lots more).

Masks: We'll spend a little time looking at pictures of a variety of traditional masks from around the world. After that we?ll take a pre-made paper mache mask and paint it. Finally, we?ll add embellishments like feathers, rhinestones, and various trims. You?ll end up with a unique piece of art.
