Marin Local Agency Formation Commission

Applications are being accepted for the appointment of an Alternate Public Member to the Marin Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) to a four-year term beginning May 1, 2017.

The alternate public member actively participates in all Marin LAFCO business as well as votes when the regular public member is absent or recused. As provided under State law, the regular and alternate public members are expected to provide balance to the Commission in helping to ensure the needs of the entire county are represented in step with implementing LAFCO law. The Alternate Public Member must reside and be registered to vote in Marin County. In selecting the Alternate Public Member, the Commission will consider the applicant’s qualifications as described in his/her letter of interest and the reasons listed for wanting to serve as a member of the Commission.

Marin LAFCO is a subdivision of the State of California and responsible for overseeing the establishment, modification, consolidation, and dissolution of cities and special districts and their municipal service areas. LAFCO’s exercise regulatory and planning responsibilities delegated by the Legislature to facilitate orderly growth and development while protecting against the premature conversion of open-space and agricultural resources based on local conditions and needs. LAFCO’s exist in all 58 counties.

Any person wishing to apply for the position should submit a letter of interest to Executive Officer Keene Simonds at The letter should briefly describe the applicant’s interests and qualifications therein and be submitted no later than Friday, March 17, 2017. Interviews will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2017. An appointment is expected at the conclusion of the applicant interviews.
