National Night Out - Tuesday August 1st, 2017

Mark your calendars – National Night Out is Tuesday, August 1st and Central Marin Police Authority is looking forward to their second year of fun and conversation with members of our communities. Please consider organizing a neighborhood activity or join us for a block party at one of our stations.

National Night Out (NNO) was created 34 years ago by the National Association of Town Watch to make an organized statement against crime throughout the country and is always held on the first Tuesday in August. Neighbors are encouraged to get out of their houses and meet other neighbors in the area and get to know them. The theory being that when neighbors meet and know each other, they are more apt to report suspicious activity in their neighborhood rather than “look the other way” when they see something noteworthy.  When you know your neighbors and watch out for them, overall crime in the area is reduced.  That first year, 400 communities in 23 states participated.  Since then NNO has grown steadily and last year over 38 million people in more than 16,000 communities in all 50 states participated.
NNO activities have expanded considerably over the years.  Neighborhood events can be casual and informal such as a potluck or ice cream social, or more elaborate activities like a street party.  If your neighborhood is not able to hold an event, then please come on over to our house!  CMPA will host block parties at both stations: in Larkspur at 250 Doherty Drive, and in San Anselmo at 525 San Anselmo Avenue.  Station parties will run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and provide an opportunity to meet and chat with not only CMPA officers, but also our public safety partners from CHP, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and Larkspur, Corte Madera, and Ross Valley Fire Departments.  There will games for kids, the opportunity to see police and fire vehicles up close, and free hot dogs for everyone.

If you are going to hold an event in your neighborhood, fill out the registration form, including a detailed description of your activities (locations, time, schedule, number of people, activities, etc.) You can access the form directly here:, or find it under “forms” on our website .  If your event includes a street closure, you must contact your City or Town Public Works Department for a permit.
Please send your completed registration to Margo Rohrbacher, NNO coordinator, no later than Wednesday, July 19th.  For questions, email  We look forward to your participation in this fun evening!
