The law: California Assembly Bill (AB) 1826

Is your business affected?

As of January 1, 2019, all businesses that generate four or more cubic yards of commercial solid waste per week must enroll in services to collect organic material separately from other waste. Four cubic yards is about the size of a small dumpster you might find in a parking lot. Organic material includes food waste, landscape trimmings, clean wood and lumber, and unlined paper like cardboard and paper towels.

Programs available to comply with AB 1826.

Marin Sanitary Service offers two organics recycling programs that are 30% less expensive than comparable landfill services.

Food 2 Energy (F2E): The F2E program is for restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and other food vendors. All training and materials are provided for free by Marin Sanitary Service.

Commercial Compost: This program is for businesses that generate organic material like soiled paper and landscape trimmings, as well as small amounts of food waste.
