The Town has an active Climate Action Commission and the Town Climate Action Plan details the Town Council's goals for a more sustainable future and actions the Town will take to reduce its carbon footprint. By collaborating with residents, businesses and organizations, we can implement the most effective strategies to reduce our carbon footprint and do our part to reduce global warming.
The Town adopted a Single Use Foodware Ordinance in 2018 to reduce waste.
The Town government began securing its electricity from 100% renewable sources by opting up to MCE Deep Green in 2014.
The Town participates in the Marin Climate & Energy Partnership (MCEP). MCEP is made up of representatives from all eleven Marin cities/towns, the County, the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM), MCE, the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) and the Marin General Services Authority (MGSA). MCEP's mission is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission levels to the targets of Marin County and local municipalities, consistent with the standards set by AB32.
See how the Town compares to other Marin jurisdictions with the MCEP Marin Sustainability Tracker. The tracker illustrates progress being made by local government, residents and businesses toward reducing emissions and increasing sustainable practices.
The Town requires projects to comply with water conserving landscape requirements and gray water requirements. Marin Municipal Water District implements this program for the Town.

The Town Construction and Demolition Materials Recovery regulations require construction projects to limit waste to landfills. Contact the Building Department for more information.
Zero Waste Marin is the formal name for the Marin Hazardous and Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority (JPA), which is comprised of representatives from all over Marin County. Zero Waste Marin helps residents and businesses meet the county’s Zero Waste goal by 2025 by reducing and recycling their solid waste and safely disposing of hazardous materials. They provide information on household hazardous waste collection, recycling, composting and waste disposal.
The Town, in partnership with the Marin Climate and Energy Partnership (MCEP), is encouraging residents to sign-up for a Resilient Neighborhoods Climate Action Workshop. The 5-meeting series brings people together and empowers them to reduce their household carbon emissions and create communities resilient to the impacts of climate change. RN workshops offer a range of actions to choose from and are ideal for anyone who is concerned about climate change and wants to do something about it. These popular *free* workshops are offered year-round.
