This summer, San Anselmo’s Department of Public Works is partnering with Friends of Corte Madera Creek to improve the bridge below Lansdale Ave and Center Boulevard for fish passage. The California Department of Fish and Game provided funding for this project, which will open 4 ½ miles of breeding habitat to migratory steelhead and other fish.
The large drop at the downstream end of the bridge and the flat bottom of the invert are barriers to fish at low and intermediate flows, therefore the project will concentrate the flows to one side and install a series of low baffles to keep water depth suitable for fish. The project will also include repairing some of the bridge’s structural deficiencies and restoring portions of the adjacent banks with native vegetation.
Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of June and could last until October. If you have any questions or comments please get in touch with Gerhard Epke at gepke@townofsananselmo.org
