Town Council Decisions

Below are a few items the Council decided at the Tuesday, February 11 Town Council meeting:

Appointed Jessica Rising and Kim Pipkin to the Economic Development Committee and Richard Berkson, Stan Radtke, Marie Henrio, Lori Lopin, Erik Selvig, and Forrest Pound to the Financial Advisory Committee. Congratulations!

Adopted a Resolution of the Town Council of the Town of San Anselmo Declaring a Climate and Ecological Emergency in San Anselmo.

Accepted the 2019-2020 Mid-Year Budget review.

Decided to continue the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at Town Council meetings, emphasizing the current practice of not compelling anyone to recite the pledge. There was Council consensus that the practice of the pledge being lead by another Council Member would continue, if the Mayor wanted to abstain from the pledge.

Storefront Advertising Survey

The Community Health and Prevention Program with the Marin County Department of Health & Human Services is conducting a survey about the retail environment and wants to know your opinion about matters related to advertising in stores in your community.

The placement and advertisement density, and the types of products that are promoted influence us all, and have the potential to impact our health. Your input is therefore vital to the efforts to improve the health of our community. The survey is expected to take approximately 5 minutes. Your participation in the survey is voluntary and your answers will be kept confidential.

ECO TIP

Unplug that device! Did you know that when your TV, computer and other appliances are plugged in, they are quietly draining electricity all day, every day, even when they are turned off? This phenomenon is known as standby power. We may not notice it, but standby power is a big issue. It accounts for 5 percent to 10 percent of residential energy use, costing the average U.S. household $100 per year. Click HERE for more information from the Department of Energy

San Anselmo
Organic Waste Cart

New Organic Waste Program for 2020

Starting on January 1, 2020, residents of incorporated San Anselmo can opt to receive a second or third green waste cart as part of their basic bundled service package with Marin Sanitary Service. Customers who want the third green waste cart must make the request by December 31, 2020 to be able to have the third cart as part of their basic bundled service. After that date, customers will be entitled to two green waste carts as part of the bundled service, and will be able to rent additional carts (up to 4).

In summary, customers who have secured up to three (3) total green waste carts before December 31, 2020, will keep this secured level of service at no additional cost until the customer terminates service with the Marin Sanitary Service. This change is part of the new program for the collection of organic waste (food and yard waste). Beginning in 2020, Marin Sanitary will no longer collect organic waste from customer-owned cans. You will be receiving more information from MSS and the Town throughout 2020 on this program change.

It is important to note that these changes are for customers in the incorporated town of San Anselmo. This does not apply to customers who may have a San Anselmo address but reside in unincorporated Marin County, such as residents of Sleepy Hollow.
