Tell Your Accessory Dwelling Unit StoryThe County of Marin is eager to hear success stories from residents who have created an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) to provide some steady rental income and help alleviate Marin’s housing crisis by providing a home for a tenant. The County’s Community Development Agency (CDA) also would like to hear from renters who live in ADUs. Both ADU owners and tenants are eligible to earn payments of up to $200 for participating in the storytelling process. Anyone may participate in a survey in English, Spanish, or Vietnamese through mid-March. CDA staff is working with a contractor, Baird & Driskell Community Planning, to create online and print materials designed to help people create more ADUs and encourage Marin’s towns and cities to do the same. “Homeowners have questions about how to plan for, build, and finance ADUs, and the photos and videos that will come from this survey will be a great asset as real-life examples of success stories in Marin,” said CDA Planner Jillian Nameth Zeiger. The Marin County Board of Supervisors has cited the creation and preservation of affordable housing as one of its top priorities. Marin is one of the most expensive places to live in the United States, with median monthly rents for two-bedroom apartments hovering near $3,100 and the median home price at more about $1.1 million. Life-Saving App Debuts in Marin County Marin County, CA – A new application for mobile devices now available in Marin County is designed to provide the public with real-time fire agency incident information and to locate CPR-trained people near someone in cardiac arrest.
The free PulsePoint app, available on the App Store and Google Play, recently expanded its geographic scope so that Marin residents will have access to real-time fire incident information, and local bystanders in Marin can be alerted to administer cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if needed. When pre-selected, cardiac arrest alerts are sent to participating residents only when an emergency occurs in a public place.
PulsePoint users can preselect which types of incidents to follow or know instantly what is going on when fire engine or ambulance sirens are sounding in their neighborhood. The app is available in English, Spanish, French and Japanese.

New Organic Waste Program for 2020Starting on January 1, 2020, residents of incorporated San Anselmo can opt to receive a second or third green waste cart as part of their basic bundled service package with Marin Sanitary Service. Customers who want the third green waste cart must make the request by December 31, 2020 to be able to have the third cart as part of their basic bundled service. After that date, customers will be entitled to two green waste carts as part of the bundled service, and will be able to rent additional carts (up to 4). In summary, customers who have secured up to three (3) total green waste carts before December 31, 2020, will keep this secured level of service at no additional cost until the customer terminates service with the Marin Sanitary Service. This change is part of the new program for the collection of organic waste (food and yard waste). Beginning in 2020, Marin Sanitary will no longer collect organic waste from customer-owned cans. You will be receiving more information from MSS and the Town throughout 2020 on this program change. It is important to note that these changes are for customers in the incorporated town of San Anselmo. This does not apply to customers who may have a San Anselmo address but reside in unincorporated Marin County, such as residents of Sleepy Hollow.
