Town Council Meeting Outcomes from This WeekAt their March 10th meeting Town Council heard the following items:
Flood Control: Received an update from Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District on the San Anselmo Flood Risk Reduction Project.
Cannabis Businesses: Approved a resolution that would amend the Town of San Anselmo General Plan to prohibit cannabis business uses in the Town and introduced “An Ordinance of the Town Council of the Town of San Anselmo Amending Municipal Code Title 10 (Planning and Zoning) Chapter 3 (Zoning) Article 18 (Cannabis Regulations) to delete Section 10-3.1801(f) That Allows Cannabis Business Applicants to Apply to Amend Town Zoning Regulations.”
EV Charging Stations: Established an Electric Vehicle Parking and Charging Policy Including Fees for Electric Vehicle Charging and Parking and New Fines for Electric Vehicle Parking Space Violations. It was decided that the hourly parking fee would remain free; however, vehicles would need to pay for charging their vehicles at the charge stations. Also, it was decided that there would be a $40 fine for parking in an EV charging space in violation of the policy, which is the same as most parking violations. Violations occur when an EV is not utilizing the charging station and where non-EV’s park in designated EV parking stalls.

San Anselmo Student, Indigo Prasad, Receives Proclamation from the Town Council At their March 10th meeting, the Town Council recognized Ingrid Prasad for being named the Humane Student of the Year by Animalearn for her research related to the use of more humane alternatives to traditional real-frog dissection.
Indigo, a seventh grader at Mark Day School, was motivated to research more humane alternatives to traditional dissection after learning that she would be expected to participate in the real-frog dissection this spring, when her science class starts its anatomy section. She took on the research as a science project for her school.
Due to her work, and with her school’s blessing, Indigo will present her classmates with choices for anatomy class; to do either real-frog dissection or choose virtual dissection combined with synthetic-frog dissection. Indigo used her $1,000 in prize money from Animalearn to purchase the “fake” frog dissection kits. We applaud your work , Indigo!

The Town of San Anselmo is monitoring and coordinating with the Marin County Health Department regarding COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). The novel coronavirus is a member of the same family of viruses that causes common colds. Treatment is similar to that for other viral infections. Marin County Public Health encourages everyone to emphasize good hygiene to reduce the risk of infection with a respiratory virus, including coronavirus. Thus, please incorporate the following practices:
- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds
- When soap and hot water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Cover your cough or sneeze with the crook of your arm, not your hands
- Avoid touching your face
- Stay home from work or school if you are sick
- Get your flu shot to protect against flu
If you have recently returned from a country with ongoing coronavirus infections, monitor your health and contact your healthcare provider if you develop upper respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath. Health experts agree that the measures taken have been effective in containing the coronavirus, but that if precautions are not taken, the coronavirus could spread to communities across the United States. You should prepare for the possibility disruption of day-to-day activities that an outbreak will cause.
THINGS YOU CAN DO INCLUDE: Ensure you have adequate supply of essential medicines Prepare a childcare plan if the childcare is not available (including school closures) Staying up to date with trusted resources (e.g., CDC) Have sufficient food in the event you have to stay home
Marin residents who have recently returned from areas with community transmission of coronavirus, such as Italy, are considered low risk and are not being asked to stay isolated at home. If a resident develops symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, however, they should contact their healthcare provider, report their symptoms and travel history to such health care professionals.
Questions or concerns can be directed to the Public Health Division, Communicable Disease Control Unit at 415-473-4163 or https://www.marinhhs.org/coronavirus.

New Organic Waste Program for 2020Starting on January 1, 2020, residents of incorporated San Anselmo can opt to receive a second or third green waste cart as part of their basic bundled service package with Marin Sanitary Service. Customers who want the third green waste cart must make the request by December 31, 2020 to be able to have the third cart as part of their basic bundled service. After that date, customers will be entitled to two green waste carts as part of the bundled service, and will be able to rent additional carts (up to 4). In summary, customers who have secured up to three (3) total green waste carts before December 31, 2020, will keep this secured level of service at no additional cost until the customer terminates service with the Marin Sanitary Service. This change is part of the new program for the collection of organic waste (food and yard waste). Beginning in 2020, Marin Sanitary will no longer collect organic waste from customer-owned cans. You will be receiving more information from MSS and the Town throughout 2020 on this program change. It is important to note that these changes are for customers in the incorporated town of San Anselmo. This does not apply to customers who may have a San Anselmo address but reside in unincorporated Marin County, such as residents of Sleepy Hollow.
