Art Talk Tuesday
The Language of Flowers in Asian Art
Tuesday, June 9 at 12pm on Zoom
Flowers – they fill our lives with beauty and color. For thousands of years they have been cultivated in gardens, arranged in containers, and represented in artwork. But they are also symbols that send messages; expressive agents of both human and divine qualities and meanings. Drawn from the Asian Art Museum’s renowned collection, the presentation will focus on six celebrated flowers - lotus, plum blossom, cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, tulip, and rose – and the messages they convey. These flowers, whether painted on a scroll, carved into a lacquer box, or cast into a bowl, bring both beauty and meaning to the artworks they adorn.
