Californians are now required to wear face coverings in public spaces - particularly indoors or when physical distancing is not possible. From the California Department of Public Health: Because of our collective actions, California has limited the spread of COVID-19 and associated hospitalizations and deaths in our state.
Still, the risk for COVID-19 remains and the increasing number of Californians who are leaving their homes for work and other needs, increases the risk for COVID-19 exposure and infection.
Over the last four months, we have learned a lot about COVID-19 transmission, most notably that people who are infected but are asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic play an important part in community spread.
The use of face coverings by everyone can limit the release of infected droplets when talking, coughing, and/or sneezing, as well as reinforce physical distancing.

Guidelines Released for Schools to Resume in FallHealth and Education Officials Chart Course for Safe, In-Classroom Learning As Marin County and the State of California make strides toward reopening local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, Marin students and parents now have more clarity on what classroom instruction will look like as schools plan to resume in Fall 2020.
On June 18, Marin Public Health and Marin County Office of Education issued A Public Health Guided Return to Site-Based Classroom Instruction. The document provides guidelines to help facilitate and return to site-based classroom instruction and applies to all Marin County educational institutions, including public, private, independent and parochial TK-12 schools.
For younger students, the guidelines leverages the concept of stable classroom cohorts, where students maintain the same group of classmates throughout the school day. These cohorts will utilize a synced schedule for arrivals, classes, lunch and recess to help prevent mixing of classroom cohorts. In addition, creative use of school space for learning and lunch breaks will maximize physical distancing and cleaning opportunities. The guidelines also include protocols for COVID-19 related scenarios and enforcing health and safety practices of hand washing, physical distancing, appropriate face coverings, and health screenings. The full guidelines are available on the Marin County Office of Education website.

Weekend Street Markets Open in San Anselmo starting this weekend for "On the Avenue"
Parts of San Anselmo Avenue will be opening to pedestrian use during summer weekends for a new project called "On the Avenue"
The Town of San Anselmo, in partnership with the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce, will open parts of San Anselmo Avenue to create pedestrian-only access from Tamalpais to Tunstead Avenues and from the Pine Street parking lot to Woodland Avenue on summer weekends.
This project, named “On the Avenue”, will take place from 3:00 P.M. on Fridays to 11:59 P.M. on Sundays. The project is designed to support local businesses by allowing them to expand beyond sidewalks and into the street while adhering to County Public Health Orders. This allows for better social distancing to make outdoor dining and retail safer and easier for our businesses and community.
On the Avenue provides a great opportunity for local retailers and restaurants to expand into the street to help them emerge from this difficult time. The Town is excited to welcoming shoppers and diners back every weekend throughout the summer, with a reminder that all visitors and businesses must continue to follow County of Marin guidelines regarding social distancing, good hygiene practices, and face coverings. For the program to succeed, it will be evaluated closely to ensure the safety of businesses and the health of the community and may cease if protocols cannot be adhered to. San Anselmo businesses interested in participating are required to complete an application. Additional information including the application packet can be found here: https://www.townofsananselmo.org/1417/OUTDOOR-ACTIVITIES-PROGRAM.

Disposables during PandemicAs Marin restaurants open for dining in, you will need to be informed about safety issues related to distancing and utensils and menus.
The CDC confirms low surface transmission risk, then recommends restaurants go disposable. But plastic pollution does not protect public health – social distance & sanitation does. From production to packaging to shipping, disposable items pass through a countless number of hands by the time they reach a restaurant. Bottom line? The most hygienic food-ware for your meals is the kind that can go through a dishwasher.?#indisposable?@upstreamsolutions?#betterwaythanthrowaway

Council adopts formal statement in response to the death of George FloydAt the June 9, 2020 meeting, Council adopted the following statement in response to the death of George Floyd:
The killing of George Floyd by law enforcement in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the latest offense perpetrated against African Americans. It reflects the legacy of the deeply troubling history of racism in our country, the United States of America. That history continues into the current-day structure of our systems. For too many African Americans, our system denies equality with respect to individual and group rights, status, and the opportunities to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, and it perpetuates myriad other injustices. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the rights of all citizens to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and to petition the government for the redress of grievances. The current mass, peaceful protests clearly exercise those rights. The San Anselmo Town Council recognizes and respects as legitimate, important and necessary the mass protests across the country catalyzed by the killing of George Floyd. The police killing of Mr. Floyd, in addition to the ever-growing compilation of similarly horrifying incidents including Breonna Taylor, Eric, Garner, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown and countless others, present blatant examples of violent police attacks upon, and oppression of, persons of color, particularly of African Americans, that should shock the conscience of all Americans. Public frustration regarding the continued heinous and racist abuses of authority exemplified by this killing has led to some burning and looting in cities across the nation. Some say that the extreme injustices that are a legacy of our racist history justify such a destructive response. From organized lynching to racist attacks by police and others, these injustices have led to the killing of people. But we are unconvinced that further destruction of property and lives can lead us closer to the promise of a country that is free and equal for all. The San Anselmo Town Council above all recognizes the injustices laid bare in recent months. Therefore we support the movement currently known as “Black Lives Matter” and officially join in the national protest of the killing of George Floyd. We urge all citizens of San Anselmo to continue to work to be honest about and rectify our country’s history of racial injustice

Council to Consider Draft Generator Ordinance for Public Safety Power ShutdownsAs we saw last October, Power Shutdown events can bring life to a grinding halt. Add the need to social distance and things get even more complicated, because power stations may be a less than desirable option for our residents.
At the next Town Council meeting on Jun 23rd, Council will discuss a draft ordinance for allowing standby generators in emergency situations.

Age-Friendly San Anselmo Neighborhood Connections Pilot
Influenced by the caring spirit of our community and the number of volunteers and neighbors that stepped forward to help during this pandemic, Age-Friendly has started a pilot encouraging streets and neighborhoods to foster stronger connections by having outdoor gatherings over the summer. The program supports neighborhoods in establishing leaders and teams who will help each other during any form of crisis event, including planned power outages. Age-Friendly provides a simple process and the supplies needed to have a successful event.? The residents of Tamalpais Ave enjoyed live music outside the home of Eileen and Stewart Burke this past Sunday at the first pilot event. Over 50 people attended the 2 hour event organized by Suellen Lamorte and Eilleen and advertised by word of mouth, flyers, a banner and street sign Neighbors introduced themselves and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Attendees went by an emergency education table with a sample "go bag" for evacuations and plenty of helpful information about smart planning for fires and power outages. 5 people volunteered to be block?captains. Block captains coordinate emergency planning for 5-6 homes around them.?Everyone decided that they should have more gatherings through the summer!? Interested in hosting a Neighborhood Connections event on your street or in your neighborhood? Contact Sara: SaraAgeFriendlySA@gmail.com
