Stroll Through San Anselmo’s History

The Historical Commission is excited to again sponsor Dick Miner’s popular free walking tour through downtown. Learn about San Anselmo’s historic Hub, the role the railroad played in the development of town and the changing character of the businesses and architecture on San Anselmo Avenue.

Tour dates for 2022 are April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8. Meet Dick at Creek Park at 9:00 a.m. The tour ends at the Historical Museum for refreshments. No reservations are required.

Ages 7 and younger are invited to hunt for eggs, candy and the coveted golden eggs on Saturday, April 16^th at 11:00am sharp!

And for those who are 8 and older, you are officially invited to our poplar Flashlight Egg Hunt at Memorial Park on Friday, April 15^th at 8:15pm sharp! Bring your running shoes, a basket, and of course, your flashlight and get ready to run the length of Memorial Park!

Community Gathering at Millennium Playground

Saturday, April 16th from 10:00AM to NOON

Looking for something to do before and after your kids are done running around searching for eggs? Come join us as we look towards improving our beloved Millennium Playground before, during and after the Egg Hunt!

The Millennium Playground Community Advisory Committee (MPCAC) is seeking community members to first, admire the newly restored and freshly painted playground and second, provide your input on what could make the playground even better!!

As you may have noticed there are some open spaces within the playground and MPCAC needs your ideas to pack it full of even more fun for our community! There will be committee members to help explain what has already been done to improve the playground and listen to your thoughts to take it to next level. No idea is too big or too small!

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (C.I.T.)

Camp KidMarin will be offering a C.I.T program for 12–15 year olds, giving participants the opportunity to train as a junior counselor and practice their leadership skills for future work as a full–time counselor. A minimum commitment of one week (possibly two) is required for all C.I.T.s.

MWPA Announces Low-Income Senior Homeowner Exemption

The Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) was created to implement a comprehensive wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness program for Marin County. MWPA is funded by a parcel tax approved by voters in March 2020.

There is a low-income senior parcel tax exemption available to homeowners who meet certain criteria.

SAN ANSELMO'S ANNUAL
TAX REBATE PROGRAM

San Anselmo property owners who have a financial hardship may qualify for the rebate of a portion or all of San Anselmo’s Municipal Services (also called “General Purpose”), Pension Override and Library Parcel Taxes.

Property owners who satisfy any of the following criteria may be eligible:

Any household that is eligible for Public Assistance and/or Food Stamps from the Health and Human Services Department of the County of Marin.
Any household whose total income (Line 7b on IRS Form 1040) is equivalent to or less than “very low income” for the number of persons in the household, as shown on the most current Federal Housing and Urban Development Income Limits for Marin County.
Any household in which the principal wage earner or wage earners have been unemployed for at least 90 days prior to the application date.

The rebate program defines low income as below $63,950 for a one-person household, $73,100 for a two-person household, $82,250 for a three-person household, and $91,350 for a four-person household. Rental property is not eligible to be considered for the rebate program.

The Town of San Anselmo’s Tax Equity Board reviews the applications, which must be filed by May 13, 2022. For more information and application forms, please contact Jeff Zuba at 415-258-4678.

Town Seeking Applicants for several Boards, Committees and Commissions

The Town is seeking to fill two seats on the Climate Action Commission. The San Anselmo Climate Action Commission’s primary goal is to work with the Town Council and residents to achieve the goals and implement the actions in the adopted Climate Action Plan - to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide, and support adaptation planning and promote strategies to cope with the impacts of climate change.

The Town is seeking to fill two seats on the Arts Commission. The Arts Commission was established in July 1996. The goal of the commission is to add to the cultural character of Ross Valley through any form of artistic expression. The objectives include providing a structure to facilitate the creation of art in all disciplines in the community, promoting and exhibiting art and cultural works produced by Ross Valley artists and promoting art education in the community and schools. Persons from the entire Ross Valley are encouraged to apply.

The Town is seeking to fill one seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission .The commission advises the council and the parks and recreation staff on the planning of the recreation activities, the development of town parks and management of public lands.

The Town is seeking to fill three seats on the Capital Programs Monitoring Committee. The purpose of the committee is to monitor the implementation of the Town’s capital improvement program, funded by the voter-approved Measure D one-half cent sales tax funds, as well as grant funding, Road Maintenance Fund monies, and General Fund monies. The committee’s charge is to issue an annual public report summarizing the progress of capital improvement projects funded by Measure D, as well as capital improvement projects funded by other sources of Town funding. The committee is composed of two council members and seven members of the public, with experience in:

Engineering and/or construction
Finance
Familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo community
Public relations and communication

The Town is seeking to fill two seats on the Financial Advisory Committee. The charge of the Financial Advisory Committee is to review and become familiar with the Town’s finances, budget, resource allocations and expenditures, and to make recommendations to the Town Council regarding matters affecting the Town’s financial position.

Fire-smart Landscaping Tips from UC Marin Master Gardeners

MARCH: Remove and replace invasive plants

Remove invasive plants such as ivy, broom, and pampas grass that spread quickly, add considerable fuel for fire and use precious water.
Replace with California natives, pollinator or low water use plants keeping drought tolerance and biodiversity in mind.
Unfortunately, excessive clearing can create a vulnerable entry point for the plants we do not want. Pull weeds before they go to seed to keep them from spreading.
