A Message from the Butterfield Road Safety Committee
WE HEARD YOU! Thanks to all of you (almost 900 strong!) that filled out the recent Butterfield Safety Survey! The response was tremendous and demonstrates how many people use the Butterfield corridor and how much safety is a concern for people walking and biking. The Butterfield Safety Committee is working to improve the safety of the corridor for everyone, in particular vulnerable users (young people and older adults) and those traveling by active modes (walking, scooting, biking, etc.) and your responses go a long way to help inform our work.
Please see the infographic that breaks down the survey responses into areas such as who responded, survey findings, support for changes and importantly, and conclusions drawn from results. Highlights: few people walking and biking are always comfortable on Butterfield, there’s a large number of unreported bike crashes (most involving children), and there is broad support for a designated bike/walk lane in the unincorporated section of Butterfield.
To that end, we hope you will join us for a Community Meeting on April 21 from 6 to 7pm (via zoom) to review the survey, review/discuss concepts for crosswalk at community center and designating the shoulder (in unincorporated Marin) a true bike/walk lane. We will discuss potential issues and solutions arising from these concepts in the entire corridor. If you have questions or comments, please email nvernon@marincounty.org beforehand to make sure we cover/discuss in the meeting. We want to hear from you as a user of the Butterfield corridor! Meeting ID: 827 2353 7584 Passcode: 572054 One tap mobile +16699006833,,82723537584#,,,,*572054# US (San Jose)
Thank you for being involved in improving the safety of the Butterfield Road!
Butterfield Safety Committee is a collaboration of Sleepy Hollow Homes Association, the Marin County Department of Public Works, San Anselmo Department of Public Works, Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Safe Routes, local schools and concerned residents

April Art Exhibit at Town BooksTOWN BOOKS is honored to host an exhibit of artwork by local mixed media artist, Cindy Miracle. Cindy's artwork has been shown throughout the US and will be on display through April. She currently lives and works in West Marin. Cindy enjoys painting, printmaking, photography and textiles. During the isolation of Covid, she began to reflect back on her work and past experiences with mapping and cartography, which became the inspiration for new work. Cindy likes working in layers, and finds painting and printmaking especially conducive to her process now.
Cindy was recently awarded the Denis Diderot Artist-in-Residence Grant and will be traveling to Orquevaux, France in June to spend two weeks at the Chateau d'Orquevaux painting and drawing!
Please join us for an ARTIST RECEPTION Friday, April 8th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Fire-smart Landscaping Tips from UC Marin Master GardenersMARCH: Remove and replace invasive plants
- Remove invasive plants such as ivy, broom, and pampas grass that spread quickly, add considerable fuel for fire and use precious water.
- Replace with California natives, pollinator or low water use plants keeping drought tolerance and biodiversity in mind.
- Unfortunately, excessive clearing can create a vulnerable entry point for the plants we do not want. Pull weeds before they go to seed to keep them from spreading.
