Sinkhole Repair and Center Blvd ReopeningRoadway reopened on Friday, April 15thA four foot wide sinkhole that appeared on Monday afternoon, April 11th on Center Blvd at Sycamore Ave and San Anselmo Ave has been repaired and the road reopened. The sinkhole, which was caused by erosion and a damaged storm drain near the San Anselmo creek, required excavation, the creation of several new concrete support structures and retaining walls, the repair of a collapsed storm drain line and roadway improvements. Town Public Works staff began work on the repairs as soon as the problem was discovered and several local contractors adjusted their work assignments to be able to help the Town do the required work quickly and efficiently, including Van Midde Concrete who did the support structure work, Miksus Services who completed the storm drain pipe repairs, and Nerviani Paving who finished the job by paving the affected roadway.
Big kudos go out to our Town staff who stepped in and worked overtime to get this done, including Assistant Public Works Director Scott Schneider and Building Official Erica Freeman along with others in the Public Works Department. As with all of the Town's major projects, providing engineering design, bringing in partners to do the work quickly and leading the way all around was our Public Works Director and Town Engineer Sean Condry. Thank you Sean and your team for giving your all to the Town day in and day out.

April is Drug Take Back MonthClean out your medicine cabinets twice a year or more to prevent intentional and unintentional drug misuse and injury. Every year, about two million people end up in the hospital due to drug-related injuries, including medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and overdoses. Children, youth, and the elderly are especially at risk for injury and overdose. Among people who misuse prescription pain relievers like opioids, the most common source for the meds is a friend or relative. Improper disposal can also have harmful environmental effects. Flushing medications can cause a variety of consequences in waterways and negatively impact our communities. To properly dispose of your prescriptions, either drop off or mail back your unwanted or expired medications. Place pills in either their original packaging (with labels removed for privacy) or put assorted pills in a sealable plastic bag. Liquids in bottles can be placed in sealable plastic bags, as well. Visit the RXSafe Marin website to find your nearest disposal kiosk or mail-back site as well as how to request a mail-back envelope be sent directly to your home. Thank you for making Marin a safer place.

A Message from the Butterfield Road Safety Committee
WE HEARD YOU! Thanks to all of you (almost 900 strong!) that filled out the recent Butterfield Safety Survey! The response was tremendous and demonstrates how many people use the Butterfield corridor and how much safety is a concern for people walking and biking. The Butterfield Safety Committee is working to improve the safety of the corridor for everyone, in particular vulnerable users (young people and older adults) and those traveling by active modes (walking, scooting, biking, etc.) and your responses go a long way to help inform our work.
Please see the infographic that breaks down the survey responses into areas such as who responded, survey findings, support for changes and importantly, and conclusions drawn from results. Highlights: few people walking and biking are always comfortable on Butterfield, there’s a large number of unreported bike crashes (most involving children), and there is broad support for a designated bike/walk lane in the unincorporated section of Butterfield.
To that end, we hope you will join us for a Community Meeting on April 21 from 6 to 7pm (via zoom) to review the survey, review/discuss concepts for crosswalk at community center and designating the shoulder (in unincorporated Marin) a true bike/walk lane. We will discuss potential issues and solutions arising from these concepts in the entire corridor. If you have questions or comments, please email nvernon@marincounty.org beforehand to make sure we cover/discuss in the meeting. We want to hear from you as a user of the Butterfield corridor! Meeting ID: 827 2353 7584 Passcode: 572054 One tap mobile +16699006833,,82723537584#,,,,*572054# US (San Jose)
Thank you for being involved in improving the safety of the Butterfield Road!
Butterfield Safety Committee is a collaboration of Sleepy Hollow Homes Association, the Marin County Department of Public Works, San Anselmo Department of Public Works, Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Safe Routes, local schools and concerned residents
