May 2022 Firesmart Tips from UC Marin Master Gardeners

MAY: Maintain plants along exit routes from your home

  • Identify the best escape routes to get to your vehicle and then for your vehicle to leave your property. Routes with less vegetation are safer.
  • Assess the health and condition of the plants along each route. Keep vegetation maintained – pruned and hydrated.
  • Remove or move combustible materials from your exits e.g., jute doormats, wood planters, furniture etc.
  • Remove dead plant material and debris.
  • Remove vines near doors or windows.
  • Replace wood gates, arbors, or trellises near exit routes with metal.
  • Have evacuation signs ready to post at home exits in the event you must evacuate. This alerts fire personnel that you have left the property. (Check with your local fire department for signs.)

TOWN BOOKS ARTIST SERIES

We are honored to host an exhibit by local painter, ANANDI MATTESON. Her artwork will be on display through May and June.

As an artist, Anandi responds to the beauty of nature, mainly flowers in all shapes and colors. The delicacy and openness of a flower in full bloom keeps inviting her in again and again. Anandi’s creative process often starts with walking in nature, camera in hand. She shoots away at what attracts her, then recreates the beauty with acrylics on wood or canvas.

Please join us for an ARTIST RECEPTION Friday, May 6, from 5-7 pm.
Light refreshments will be served.

SAN ANSELMO ORGANIC FARM STAND SET TO REOPEN ON WEDNESDAY MAY 4, 2022

Marin Community Farm Stands represents the collective effort of over 40 local and regional organic farmers, ranchers, fishermen and artisan producers. We bring only certified organic produce to market under one Farm Stand. The advantages are many, but the most important ones are high quality certified organic produce from Marin growers, a small footprint in set-up and teardown, and we service communities that are too small for Certified Farmers Markets to operate successfully.

Come and shop at the San Anselmo Organic Farm Stand for Marin Organic Produce. Mesclun mix, spinach, carrots and beets from Star Route Farms (Bolinas), artichokes, cucumbers, raspberries and heirloom tomatoes from Mt Barnabe Farm (Lagunitas), blueberries from Triple Delight (Fresno), strawberries from Rodriguez Farms (Watsonville), pastured farm fresh eggs from Silver Sky Ranch (Tomales) to name a few… Enjoy our sashimi grade wild seafood, local beef, pastured pork, lamb and many more seasonal local organic treats. Weaving the communal web between the farm and the table since 2003.
