PARKING for Live on the Avenue EventsIMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE SHAREEVENT AREA IS ON SAN ANSELMO AVENUE between Tunstead Ave and Tamalpais AveWe are all excited to kick-off four and a half months of weekend events in our historic downtown. A lot of effort goes into preparing and running these popular evening events. In an effort to strike a balance between allowing our small businesses to close out their days while maintaining as much customer parking as possible and providing enough time to allow cars to exit the area before the event begins at 6pm, the event area on San Anselmo Avenue will remain open for parking until 5:30pm each Friday and Saturday night beginning on June 3rd and ending on October 15th. In addition, there will be three 30 minute spaces available for retail customers in three separate convenient locations that are available from 4:30 to 6:00pm throughout the event series.
CLICK HERE for a downtown parking map.
IT CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION when a vehicle attempts to exit the event area after the event has started, so please help us keep these events safe by not parking in the event area on San Anselmo Avenue after 5:30pm.
Any vehicles remaining on San Anselmo Avenue between Tunstead and Tamalpais Avenues after 5:30pm will be ticketed and not allowed to leave the event area until 10pm.

Art Talk Tuesday Expressions of Gender in Asian Art Tuesday, June 14 at 12pm on ZoomWhen we see people, one of the first things we notice is gender. We tend to categorize people as male or female, but what if the characteristics we used to categorize were fluid, and not rigidly defined? What if there were no gender distinctions? Ambiguous and gender fluid depictions have existed in Asian art for thousands of years. The belief in non-duality contributes to these purposely ambivalent portrayals. Mary Mead, a community speaker from the Asian Art Museum, will explore some of the fascinating ways various Asian cultures have represented people and deities as male, female, and non-binary. Archeological digs from around the world – and in your own backyard – routinely turn up intriguing shards. California’s ample deposits of clay and talc insured a strong tradition here, and California potters have played a leading role in the development of this humble and beautiful craft. Learn more about some of the state’s most interesting clay crafters in this presentation from guest speaker Avril Angevine. Interested in attending? Marin County Gun Buy Back Event, Saturday, June 4, 2022Participation in this program helps reduce the risk of suicide, accidental discharge, domestic violence and guns getting into the wrong hands. It is a terrible reality that guns continue to proliferate in Marin County and can be used in homicides, crimes and suicide. The 2020 Marin County Civil Grand Jury estimated that there are 100,000 firearms in Marin homes and vehicles. As a community, we want to do all that we can to provide the opportunity to remove unwanted guns from our homes. One of those actions is a Gun Buy Back event which is being co-organized by Marin County DA’s office, Marin County Sheriff, San Rafael Police Department and San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin and Fairfax Mayor Stephanie Hellman. The event serves all of Marin County and will be held on June 4, 2022, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM outside of the the Marin County Sheriff's office at 1600 Los Gamos Drive in northern San Rafael. Gun Buy Back events work by enabling participants to bring in functional firearms and receive cash in exchange. The funding that supports the event comes from government, business, education, foundations, hospitals and individuals. Local jurisdictions, including the Town of San Anselmo through the Central Marin Police Authority, have contributed funds to help make this program a success. Organizers are asking that you consider donating to the Gun Buy Back Fund and help to make our community even safer. The City of San Rafael is managing the fund and to participate, please send checks to: City of San Rafael, 1400 Fifth Street, Attn: Finance Rm 204, San Rafael 94901. Specify that the donation is for “Gun Buy Back”. All donations are tax deductible (City EIN number is 94-6000424). Questions? Call 415 485-3070 or email Mayor Kate Colin at kate.colin@cityofsanrafael.org
