Seeking Community Applicants for Town
Boards, Committees and Commissions

San Anselmo's Boards,Committees and Commissions provide a vital link between Town government and the community for gathering public input, reviewing projects and making recommendations on key issues.

These bodies serve in an advisory capacity to the Town Council regarding Town policies and programs within their specified scope of responsibility and expertise. This role involves receiving public input, evaluating options and making recommendations to the Council.

Many hold monthly meetings at regularly scheduled days and times, while some operate on a more ad hoc basis.

Listed below are the current or upcoming openings for the Town's Boards, Committees and Commissions - please visit the website links for more detailed information.

If you are interested, we encourage you to submit a completed application and you will be scheduled for an interview with Town Council. Positions remain open until filled by Town Council.

Arts Commission - 3 seats

The goal of the Arts Commission is to add to the cultural character of Ross Valley through any form of artistic expression. The objectives include providing a structure to facilitate the creation of art in all disciplines in the community, promoting and exhibiting art and cultural works produced by Ross Valley artists and promoting art education in the community and schools.
The Arts Commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00pm

Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee - 1 youth seat

The San Anselmo Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee mission is to propose actions and policies to the San Anselmo Town Council which encourage more citizens to cycle for everyday transportation and recreation. The Committee seeks ways to make bicycling in San Anselmo safer and more attractive.

Board of Review - 3 seats

The Board of Review meets to hear and decide appeals from employee disciplinary actions, grievances, and citizen complaints against employees.

Capital Monitoring Committee - 3 seats

The purpose of the Capital Monitoring Committee is to monitor the implementation of the Town’s capital improvement program, funded by the voter-approved Measure D one-half cent sales tax funds, as well as grant funding, Road Maintenance Fund monies, and General Fund monies.The committee is composed of two council members and seven members of the public, with experience in: Engineering and/or construction, finance, familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo community, public relations and communications.

Climate Action Commission - 1 seat

The Climate Action Commission’s primary goal is to work with Town Council and residents to achieve the goals and implement the actions in the adopted Climate Action Plan  - to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide, and support adaptation planning and promote strategies to cope with the impacts of climate change.

Economic Development Committee - 1 seat

The Economic Development Committee develops and implements an Economic Development Action Plan, and ensures the Town’s business community and the residents have a forum for giving the Town input on steps needed to attract and retain a variety of small businesses to ensure economic vitality.

Financial Advisory Committee - 1 seat

The charge of the Financial Advisory Committee is to review and become familiar with the Town’s finances, budget, resource allocations and expenditures, and to make recommendations to the Town Council regarding matters affecting the Town’s financial position.
The Financial Advisory Committee meets at least quarterly.

Flood Committee - 3 seats

The Flood Committee is charged with serving as the Town’s expert representatives on flooding and stormwater management issues, becoming informed on hydro-logic conditions that affect flooding in San Anselmo, evaluating possible solutions and making recommendations to Town Council.

Historical Commission - 1 seat

The Historical Commission was created to preserve the history of San Anselmo and make its historical heritage known and available to present-day residents.The Commission researches aspects of San Anselmo history, interviews residents and records their oral histories, collects and catalogs photographs and memorabilia and designs permanent and temporary displays for the Historical Museum.
The Historical Commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm.

Library Advisory Board - 4 seats

The Library Advisory Board is charged with encouraging innovative library programs and guidelines to meet the needs of the community, reviewing reports from the town librarian concerning library operations, and seeking ways of informing residents of the Town's library services and soliciting their comments.
The Library Advisory Board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 4:30pm.

Open Space Committee - 3 seats

The Open Space Committee was established in 1981. The Committee has responsibility for the long-term planning of open space in and near San Anselmo, and for generating community support and fundraising for open space. The Committee operates under the framework in Town Council Resolution 4030.
The Open Space Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm.

Racial Equity Committee - 3 seats + 1 youth seat

The charge of the Racial Equity committee is to examine issues of racial equity, social justice, systemic racial bias, and diversity in the Town and to make recommendations to Town Council related to addressing the identified issues.

Comite de Racial de Iqualidad

El cargo del comite de Racial de iqualidad es para examinar cosas de iqualidad racial, justicia social, sistematica sesgo racial y diversidad en el pueblo y para hacer recomendaciones para el consul del pueblo relacionado a cosas indentificadas.
El comite de iqualidad racial se junta cada Martes de cada mes alas 6:30 P.M.

Tax Equity Board - 1 seat

The board is charged with hearing applications for tax rebate from San Anselmo property owners claiming inability to pay the town’s Municipal Services Tax, Pension Override Tax and Library Parcel Tax.
The Tax Equity Board meets once yearly in the spring.
