Public Right-of-Way Construction Ceased
Town Hall and all Town Departments are closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, 2022. Additionally, the Town does not allow any construction in the public right-of-way from Thursday, November 24 - Sunday, November 27, 2022.

2022 Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Festivities

The San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce and the Town of San Anselmo are thrilled to be bringing back a night of magic and whimsy on the Avenue. Please join us at Imagination Park at 5:00pm on December 3, 2022 to get in the holiday spirit. Besides the lighting itself, there will be free refreshments, seasonal music by the Archie Williams Jazz Band, and selfies with the man himself from the North Pole. Please don't be late as Santa arrives promptly at the beginning of the event!
New this year! An electric trackless train adorned with festive lights will be taking people on free rides up and down the Avenue from 4:00-8:00pm.

Each year, the Town of San Anselmo offers free holiday parking beginning Thanksgiving and running through New Year's Day. This year you can enjoy free parking, as you shop and dine locally, from November 23, 2022 - January 2, 2023!
Please note: Time limits for all metered and unmetered parking spots will continue to be enforced.

Library Advisory Board
The Town of San Anselmo’s Library Advisory Board currently has two vacant positions. Members of the Board advise the Town Librarian on matters pertaining to the San Anselmo Public Library. Meetings are held on the second Thursday at 4:30pm every other month. Consider joining this lively group of book lovers if you live in San Anselmo and want to serve the community. Our great little library is made better by the work of these volunteers. Candidates are interviewed and appointed by the Town Council.

Town Books and Friends of the San Anselmo Library are honored to host An Exhibition by Cedars Artists
During November and December, mixed media artwork by these talented artists will be on display and offered for sale. Come celebrate the Cedars and shop for the holidays with a visit to the book store!
The Cedars has been inspiring creative, productive, joyous, and healthy lives for individuals with developmental disabilities for over 100 years. Cedars participants are artists, weavers, Co-op owners, chefs, volunteers, and community members.

Housing Element Update
On December 12, 2022, the Housing Element Advisory Committee (HEAC) will be conducting a public meeting to review the Draft Housing Element. As you have read over the past few months, the Housing Element is a state-mandated policy document that identifies housing policies and programs aimed to meet the identified housing needs of the Town’s current and anticipated future population, with an emphasis on affordable and special needs housing, removal of governmental constraints to housing development, and equal access to housing. The Housing Element provides goals, policies, and programs that address: - Conserving and improving existing housing and neighborhoods
- Assisting in development and provision of affordable housing
- Providing adequate residential sites to address fair share housing needs
- Removing governmental constraints to housing development
- Promoting equal housing opportunities, including San Anselmo’s special needs populations
The Housing Element is required by state law to be updated every eight years.
Housing Element to Include Recent State Housing Legislation
Since the adoption of the last Housing Element in 2015, new Housing Legislation has been passed to remove barriers and streamline housing. In response to the housing legislation, the Town is tasked with developing a policy document that addresses the state’s legislative requirement and the Draft Housing Element will be include policies, programs, and actions in response to the legislation. The Town has moved some plaza picnic tables back to that area to provide more seating. New State Funded Vouchers to Help Professional Landscaping Businesses Purchase Battery-Operated Landscape Equipment
Starting in 2024, California will be prohibiting the sale of new gasoline-powered landscape equipment to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution associated with the use of this equipment.
The California Air Resources Board has just released new funding to help professional landscaping businesses purchase battery-operated landscape equipment including edgers, trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and mowers, as well as extra batteries and chargers. Up to $25,000 in vouchers are available per purchaser.

December 2022Marin Master Gardener TipsPlan Your Fire-smart Landscape
Make a fire-smart plan. Consider existing plants, budget, and how much maintenance you are willing to do. Start by understanding the three defensible space zones. The idea is to decrease the energy and speed of a fire by eliminating continuous, dense vegetation vertically and horizontally. Defensible space allows a safer space to defend property. Plant spacing and maintenance is key. - Zone 0: 0 to 5 feet from the house. This is the most critical area. Minimize combustible materials and separate plants with non-combustible materials (concrete, brick, rocks, decomposed granite, gravel). Eliminate combustible plants and mulch within 5’ of structures, especially under windows.
- Zone 1: 5 to 30 feet from the house. Separate plantings and garden beds with hardscape and provide ample plant spacing to slow the spread of flames. Select plants that are easy to maintain that do not produce excessive debris or contain volatile oils.
- Zone 2: 30 to 100 feet from the house. Here, you can use larger shrubs and trees planted in widely spaced groups or “islands.” Consider the mature size of plants and shrubs to maintain spaces.

Fire Safe Marin - December Message
Thank you for being part of the incredible community in Marin that is adapting to wildfire! Your work is making a difference- this year residents removed over 8,350 yards of fire fuels from their yards, defensible space inspectors visited 33,000 houses, and more than $500,000 dollars were awarded from the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority to homeowners for home hardening and defensible space work.

San Anselmo's Boards,Committees and Commissions provide a vital link between Town government and the community for gathering public input, reviewing projects and making recommendations on key issues.
If you are interested, we encourage you to submit a completed application and you will be scheduled for an interview with Town Council. Positions will remain open until filled by Town Council.
