FIRE PREVENTION NEWS

On January 22nd, the San Anselmo Town Council approved funding for the creation of a Defensible Space Inspection program. Pending approval by other member agencies, this funding will allow the Ross Valley Fire Department to hire a Lead Supervisor Inspector, 2-4 defensible space inspectors along with associated equipment and vehicle costs. It is expected that this program will begin in 2019. The following is a link to the full staff report (LINK).

Priority areas have been identified based the need for defensible space, the current level of public engagement, areas where evacuation routes are challenging due to vegetation over growth, and the patterns of how vehicle parking impedes the access on narrow roads that will provide challenges to emergency response in combination with public egress.

The 2016 Marin County Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan (CWPP) fire modeling identifies these areas as consistent with rankings for Areas of Concern, and areas ranked as being able to support Very High Flame Length, Rate of Spread combined with high population density. http://www.firesafemarin.org/cwpp

Help Keep Flower Baskets in Downtown SA


It seems everyone enjoyed the beautiful hanging flower baskets in Town last year. A group of engaged residents have created the San Anselmo Beautification Committee who, along with the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce, want to make sure that this project will happen again this coming spring and summer. 
 
Their goal is to raise $10,000. This will enable them to double the amount of baskets. In order to accomplish this they need the help of the community and merchants. Age-Friendly Survey


The County of Marin was recently awarded age-friendly status by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities. 

They would like for anyone 60 years or older or representing an individual or group of adults age 60 or older to participate in a survey. The survey is located at:

The information collected through this survey process will inform the development of a strategic plan for achieving an Age-Friendly County of Marin.

Teen Painting

Teen Painting + Drawing Class

We are pleased to announce a new Teen Painting + Drawing class right here in San Anselmo (Mondays from 4:00-6:00pm)! It is taught by the wonderful Studio 4 Art team and will run monthly so you can sign up at anytime.

This class is designed with teens in mind. Students will be learning about painting techniques in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Welcoming all styles we will explore realism, abstract, expressionism, and surrealism. Students will be working from their own inspiration and will choose what subject they would like to paint. An introduction each class period will have a new technique in brush application, composition, solvents, and how to tell a story through painting. Drawing techniques are taught simultaneously as we begin to “see like artists” and execute like professionals.

Boards and Commission Seats Available

Arts Commission – The Commission provides a structure to facilitate the creation of art in all disciplines in the community, promoting and exhibiting art and cultural works produced by Ross Valley artists, and promoting art education in the community and schools.  The Commission consists of eleven members, including one youth member, and meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.  There are six seats available.  Persons from the Ross Valley are encouraged to apply.

Capital Program Monitoring Committee – The purpose of the committee is to monitor the implementation of the Town’s capital improvement program, funded by the voter-approved Measure D one-half cent sales tax funds, as well as grant funding, Road Maintenance Fund monies, and General Fund monies. The committee’s charge is to issue an annual public report summarizing the progress of capital improvement projects funded by Measure D, as well as capital improvement projects funded by other sources of Town funding. The committee consists of seven members, representing a wide variety of the community, with a range of skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas:
 
•          Finance (preferably public finance)
•          Engineering and/or construction
•          Public relations and communication
•          Familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo Community
 
Two Councilmembers and two designated Town staff liaisons will serve in an advisory capacity only.  The Committee will meet as needed to review projects. There are three seats available

Dog Park Steering Committee - The Committee provides input to the town regarding ongoing operation of the Red Hill Dog Park and to serve in an advisory capacity to the town regarding dog use issues at other town parks. The committee consists of seven community representatives, that serve a minimum of a two-year term. Members must have an interest in and commitment to the importance and value of Red Hill Dog Park and other authorized dog play areas in the Town of San Anselmo. There are two seats available.

Flood Committee – The charge of the Flood Committee is to serve as the Town’s expert representatives on flooding and storm water management issues, to become informed on the hydrologic conditions that affect flooding in San Anselmo, to evaluate possible solutions and to make recommendations to the Town Council.  Applicants are recruited from professionals in the fields of engineering, hydrology, flood control and other areas of expertise that relate to the control of storm water.  The committee consists of 5 members and meets on an as needed basis. There are three seats available.

Historical Commission – The Commission was created to preserve the history of San Anselmo by means of research and the collection and organization of information, photographs and artifacts concerning the Town’s development.  The Commission consists of eleven members, including one youth member and meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesdays of the month in the Historical Museum, located on the first floor of the Library.  There are five seats available.

Library Advisory Board – The Board is charged with considering, proposing and recommending guidelines with respect to programs and facilities to meet the library needs of the community, in conjunction with the Town Librarian.  The Board consists of seven members, including one youth member and meets on the fourth Thursday of every other month at 4:30 p.m. in the Library.  There are two seat available.

Open Space Committee – The Open Space Committee has the major responsibilities for the long-term planning of open space in and near San Anselmo, for the generation of community support and fund-raising to implement the plan.  The Committee consists of eleven members, including youth members, and meets on the third Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers. There are five seats available.
