Election News

An election will be held in San Anselmo for two Town Council terms, one Town Treasurer term, and one Town Clerk term, all for three years. The filing period for candidates began on July 15 and runs through August 9. The filing period deadline will be extended to August 14 if all incumbents don’t file for candidacy. Funded by a Local Private Donor, the Red Hill Avenue Median Landscape Improvement Project Will Begin in This Month

With generous funding from a private donor, the Town hired a landscape and civil engineering
consulting firm to design median improvements on Red Hill Avenue between the Hub and Sequoia Drive. The project consists of removing the existing diseased elm trees and installing bio-retention, irrigation, drainage improvements, curbing, landscaping and trees. The landscaping and trees were selected following the Median Master Plan for San Anselmo that was approved in March, 2018. 

The work is expected to begin in August and will be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Alexis Fineman Appointed to Town Council

At the July 23, 2019 Town Council meeting, the Council voted to appoint Alexis Fineman to fill the seat vacated by Kay Coleman. Fineman, a 25 year-old school teacher, will finish out the third term of Coleman. The term ends in December 2020.

The Town Council would like to thank all of the excellent candidates. The applicant pool was reflective of the commitment that nine residents have to volunteerism and to making San Anselmo a better place in which to live, work and play.

Electrify Marin 

Countywide Rebate Program
Electrify Marin is a countywide program to reduce natural gas use in homes. This program is funded by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and provides incentives to homeowners to replace existing natural gas water heaters, furnaces, and stoves with high-efficiency electric alternatives. The County of Marin is offering rebates to single family property owners for the replacement of natural gas appliances with efficient all-electric units, including water heaters, furnaces, ranges and cooktops. Replacing natural gas appliances with electric models will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve indoor air quality, and make your home a safer environment. Rebates range from $250 to $1,000 dollars per replaced gas appliance (or $250 to $4,500 for income-qualified households). In cases where installing a new electric appliance would require an upgrade to the existing electric service panel, further rebates are available to offset the cost of the additional capacity. Art Talk Tuesday

California Photography: Sun and Shadows in the Golden State

California photographers have explored, developed, and refined the art of image-making in significant ways. From early Pictorialiams to Oakland's revolutionary F64 group to the New Topographics work of the 1960s, photographers in the Golden State have produced a body of work that rivals their New York peers. Avril Angevine will share how local artists documented the human and natural environments of a very special place. 

No Storytime in August

There will be NO storytime programs in August. This break from storytime gives your children’s librarian a chance to brainstorm, create new programs, re-organize our collections, and plan for the rest of the year’s storytime fun. In the meantime, practice your storytime rhymes at home, visit the library, and check out lots of books!

National Night Out

National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6th.

National Night Out (NNO) is Tuesday, August 6th and we are looking forward to another evening of fun and conversation with members of our communities. Please join the Central Marin Police Department as they host two "block parties" or consider organizing an activity in your neighborhood.

Now in it's 36th year, NNO was created by the National Association of Town Watch to make an organized statement against crime and is always held on the first Tuesday in August. NNO events are held across the country and encourage residents to come out and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors, police officers, fire fighters, and other community organizations.

Once again, CMPA will host block parties at two locations: in Corte Madera at Menke Park, Redwood and Corte Madera Avenues; or at our San Anselmo station, 525 San Anselmo Avenue. The parties will run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and provide an opportunity to meet and chat with not only CMPA officers, but also our public safety partners from CHP, and the Central Marin and Ross Valley Fire Departments. There will be games for kids, the opportunity to see police and fire vehicles up close, and free hot dogs for all.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park  - Saturdays in June through October 2019, 6-10 p.m., Creek Park

The San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the popular Movies in Creek Park event series starting this Saturday. The movies will run in Creek Park on Saturday Nights (with the exception extreme weather conditions and on July 27th for the Beatles Tribute Concert). Seating begins around 7pm, with a pre-movie slide show, announcements, trivia and nightly raffle.  Movies begin when it becomes dark enough and will generally run two hours. The films are generally acceptable for all audiences, but parental guidance and child supervision is always recommended. To view the list of films, CLICK HERE.

Film genres will include Action, Animation, SciFi, Classics, Comedies and Feel-good Favorites. The 2018 season movies were selected from an exhaustive list of requests from members of the community, merchants and business owners, then cross-referenced and licensed by the Motion Picture Association for public viewing. Many "favorites" are not available due to licensing restrictions and "black-out" periods by motion picture studios.

Historic Stroll

Take a Stroll Though San Anselmo's History

Travel back in time with the Historical Commission on docent-led strolls through two areas of San Anselmo.

Tour 1: Downtown San Anselmo. The tour will highlight San Anselmo’s historic Hub, the role of the railroad in the development of town and the changing character of the businesses and architecture on San Anselmo Avenue. Meet at Creek Park and stroll along San Anselmo Avenue. The tour will end at the Historical Museum for light refreshments. 
Dates are August 24 and October 26.  Meet at Creek Park at 9:00 a.m.

Tour 2: The Seminary Area. Visit one of San Anselmo's oldest neighborhoods. The tour will highlight the quiet beauty of San Francisco Theological Seminary, its history and architecture. Meet at Montgomery Chapel, Richmond Road & Bolinas Avenue. This tour does involve stairs and uphill walking and is not suitable for strollers or very young children. Refreshments will be served along the way. 

The remaining date is September 28.  Meet at Montgomery Chapel, Richmond Road and Bolinas Avenue at 9:00 a.m.

Boards and Commission Seats Available

Arts Commission – The Commission provides a structure to facilitate the creation of art in all disciplines in the community, promoting and exhibiting art and cultural works produced by Ross Valley artists, and promoting art education in the community and schools.  The Commission consists of nine members and meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Historical Museum.  There is one seat available.  Persons from the Ross Valley are encouraged to apply.

Board of Review - The Board of Review is responsible to hear and decide appeals from employee disciplinary actions, hear and decide employee’s grievances, and hear and advise on citizen complaints against employees. Members must be residents of the Town and have a reputation for impartiality. The Board consists of five members and meets only as needed. There is one seat available.

Capital Program Monitoring Committee – The purpose of the committee is to monitor the implementation of the Town’s capital improvement program, funded by the voter-approved Measure D one-half cent sales tax funds, as well as grant funding, Road Maintenance Fund monies, and General Fund monies. The committee’s charge is to issue an annual public report summarizing the progress of capital improvement projects funded by Measure D, as well as capital improvement projects funded by other sources of Town funding. The committee consists of seven members, representing a wide variety of the community, with a range of skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas:
•          Finance (preferably public finance)
•          Engineering and/or construction
•          Public relations and communication
•          Familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo Community
Two Councilmembers and two designated Town staff liaisons will serve in an advisory capacity only.  The Committee will meet as needed to review projects. There is one seat available.

Historical Commission – The Commission was created to preserve the history of San Anselmo by means of research and the collection and organization of information, photographs and artifacts concerning the Town’s development.  The Commission consists of eleven members, including one youth member and meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesdays of the month in the Historical Museum, located on the first floor of the Library.  There is one seat available.

Library Parcel Tax Oversight Committee - The purpose of the oversight committee is to ensure transparency and accountability to the voters by reviewing the collection and expenditure of Library tax revenues.  The group meets twice a year to review the library budget. There are two seats available.  

Planning Commission – The Commission hears and determines applications for individual zoning changes, planned use developments, design reviews and such. In addition, it evaluates the General Plan and advises the Council, recommending implementing ordinances and broad changes in zoning.  The Commission consists of seven members with a range in skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Construction
  • Law
  • Architecture
  • Public relations
  • Familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo community

The Commission meets on the first and third Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Chambers. There is one seat available.

Parks & Recreation Commission – The Commission advises the Council and the Parks & Recreation staff on the planning of the recreation activities, the development of Town parks and management of public lands. The Commission consists of seven members, including one youth member and meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers. There are two seats available. 

Sustainability Commission – The Sustainability Commission was established to promote sustainability by enhancing opportunities for sustainable practices in San Anselmo, to secure a high quality of life for San Anselmo residents and simultaneously meeting environmental, economic and community needs.  The Commission consists of five members, plus two youth members and meets regularly on the fourth Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.  There is one available.

Tax Equity Board – The Board is charged with hearing applications for tax rebate from San Anselmo property owners claiming inability to pay the Town’s Municipal Services Tax and Pension Override Tax.  The Board consists of three members and meets once a year in the spring.  There is one seat available.
